Dear Valued Customers,
By default, Microsoft Windows OS comes with Remote desktop services on port 3389. Since it is widely known port, it can be a target of Remote Desktop Brute force attacks easily. Intruders just initiate a Remote Desktop connection with random IP address on default port 3389. Then after, a big list of password combinations is being inserted with a known username such as administrator/admin constantly. Eventually, they may find a password to access your VPS. In any case, your VPS resources (CPU and bandwidth) will be abused. This is continuous and stealth attack, you will never know, except if you find multiple entries of “audit failure†logs in Event Viewer.
To mitigate this problem, AccuWebHosting has started delivering Windows VPS with Remote Desktop services on non standard port. Hence, If you enter just IP address/Computer name without port, it won't work. You can obtain this non standard port from VPS login details email.
You need to enter “Computer name/IP address:port number†in Remote Desktop Connection Window. Rest of the steps will be same.
