By default, Telnet server is not installed on your Windows VPS and when you try to run "Telnet" command it returns "Unrecognized Command" message.

To install Telnet Server, please perform the following steps:

  1. Open Server Manager. Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Manage.

    Open Server Manager

  2. In the Features Summary section, click on Add features.

    Go to Features and Click on Add Features

  3. On the Select Features page, select Telnet Server.

    Select Telnet Server Option from Features List

  4. Click Next, and on the Confirm Installation Options page, click Install.

    Click Next and Click Install to Start the Installation

  5. That's it! Telnet Server is installed in your server.
